Each year patients will be offered a comprehensive physical exam.  Adults who get annual physicals are more likely to discover potential health complications before they become serious and they are more aware of the importance of lifestyle choices and how they affect overall well-being. EKG, urinalysis will be performed along with stroke, low bone mass and autonomic nervous system function as indicated (usually every 1-3 years for each test).  Overall health assessment, goals and improvement will take place at the end of the annual exam.

Weight loss counseling and treatment is done via the Balance MD program which has evolved during my 20 years of practicing Internal Medicine.  This program empowers you on how to eat, exercise and teaches you the skills to respond to relapse rapidly and effectively.  Balance MD is designed to achieve quick and permanent weight loss.

Stroke screening is achieved by noninvasive ultrasound of the carotid arteries.  The procedure requires no special preparation and is performed in the office. Osteoporosis ( low bone mass= increased risk of fracture) screening and monitoring of treatment response are performed with DEXA.  This in non-invasive office procedure takes 15-20 minutes and involves the patient lying on a comfortable bed.  Our DEXA machine not only measure bone mass at the hip and spine but also screens most of the vertebrae in the spine to detect if they are compressing or not.

If you have private insurance or Medicare, you may have your labs drawn at CPL or elsewhere.

Cryotherapy is the freezing of a skin lesion using liquid nitrogen.  This is a simple procedure conducted in the office and usually takes 10-15 seconds per lesion.  For suspicious lesions that may be skin cancer, prompt dermatology referral will be made.

For potential heart related conditions and EKG is routinely performed in the office.  For issues such as palpitations or irregular heart rhythm a 24 hour heart monitor is used with next day follow up assessment.

Spirometry testing is performed in the office and takes minutes to determine lung capacity and how well a patient’s lungs are moving air.  This test is used to diagnose and manage COPD and asthma.
